The Ultimate Carry-On Checklist for Parents
Traveling with children requires thoughtful preparation to ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey for everyone involved. Packing the right items in your carry-on can make a significant difference. Here's a comprehensive guide to essential items parents should consider:
1. Change of Clothes for Both Child and Parents
Accidents happen, especially during travel. Packing an extra set of clothes for both your child and yourself can be a lifesaver in case of spills or other mishaps.
2. Engaging Travel Toys
Keeping your child entertained is crucial. My advice is to keep these toys away from their play rotation for a couple weeks before a trip. This will make the toys feel new and more interesting. Here are five of my favorite travel toys available on Amazon:
Busy Cube - Great for older babies and toddlers to practice their fine motor skills while being entertained.
Suction Cup Spinners - All ages love these! Stick them on the window, water bottle, TV, or tray for a great form of entertainment.
Baby Sensory Toy - My little guy loves this toy! It has so many moving parts, and it is great for teething.
Sensory Board - This is great for older babies and toddlers. It has many pages so that they won’t lose interest too soon.
Compact busy Board - My baby LOVES this toy. He plays with it for at least 15 minutes (that is a long time in baby form) uninterrupted in the car.
3. Snacks and Convenient Snack Holders
Bringing along your child's favorite snacks can prevent hunger-induced meltdowns. To keep snacks organized and mess-free, consider using leakproof containers. Remember: the more snacks, the better! Kiddo goes into a little food sleep? Even better!
Snack Spinner Container - A fun way for kids to get a snack, and you’re able to offer different snacks.
Snack Cups- Great container to put some yogurt puffs or crackers for your kiddo to reach in and grab for themselves. Do you have a thrower like my baby? These will keep the snacks in the cups if they are launched.
Bento Boxes - There are options with much larger and more compartments for options, but I like to have the smaller sizes to put in my bag.
4. Baby Carriers for Different Ages
For younger infants, a comfortable baby carrier is essential. The Beco Gemini Baby Carrier is praised for its simplicity, comfort, and adjustability, making it suitable for newborns and older babies alike.
For older babies who prefer a hip seat carrier, the TushBaby Hip Seat offers a supportive waistband and ample storage pockets, making it ideal for managing the extra load.
5. Compact Travel Stroller
A lightweight stroller that fits in the overhead compartment can be a game-changer. The Bugaboo Butterfly is renowned for its ultra-compact fold and ease of use, making it my favorite among traveling parents.
6. Feeding Supplies
Ensure you have all necessary items for feeding, whether it’s formula, breastmilk, or solid foods. I use the products below to store and warm up bottles on the go. You can also bring breastmilk that has been pumped with a small cooler and icepacks. Just let TSA know ahead of time that it is in your bag.
7. Goodie Bag for Fellow Passengers
Creating a small goodie bag with earplugs, candies, and a friendly note can help foster goodwill with nearby passengers, setting a positive tone for the flight. I have only had one bad experience with a passenger, so this is not mandatory. It is a sweet touch that will help anyone who realizes they are on a flight next to a baby.
By thoughtfully packing these items, you can enhance your travel experience and ensure your child remains comfortable and entertained throughout the journey.Ready to travel with your children of any age?
